Overview

VIReC Cyber Seminars provide an opportunity for researchers to learn about databases and clinical information systems as well as methods for using databases and information systems to aid their research. Cyber seminars are available as live Web conferences and as on-demand archived presentations that are accessible as your schedule allows.

In March 2006, the VA Information Resource Center (VIReC), with assistance from the Center for Information Dissemination and Education Resources, launched the following seminars and seminar series.

Clinical Informatics Cyber Seminars

VIReC's Clinical Informatics Cyber Seminars present expert discussion of key issues in clinical informatics for VA researchers. Join experts from VIReC and guest speakers for these lively and informative presentations. The objectives of these seminars are to:
  • Learn about applications in clinical informatics in research and quality improvement efforts, both VA and non-VA efforts
  • Understand approaches for evaluating clinical informatics and IT interventions

Seminars are held on the third Tuesday of the month from 12:00 – 1:00 PM (ET).

VA Database and Methods Cyber Seminar Series

The VIReC Database and Methods Cyber Seminar Series assists VA researchers in accessing and using VA databases for research. Faculty from VIReC and guest lecturers present these informational seminars to assist VA researchers in accessing and using VA databases for research. The objectives of this series are to:
  • Become aware of research that has used VA data
  • Learn about “best practices” in using VA databases
  • Understand approaches for using specific data in evaluating outcomes
  • Understand limitations of secondary data for specific concepts and outcomes
Seminars are held on the first Monday of the month from 1:00 – 2:00 PM (ET).
